Grounding
Hi everyone, and hope you’re all enjoying the coming Spring time. Lighter mornings and nights are so wonderful to see are’t they, and really help with our mental well-being! Carrying on with the self-care this month, I thought we’d look at some relaxation techniques to help us ‘ground’ ourselves. What is ‘grounding?’ It is the process of releasing stuck thoughts and emotions into the Earth, allowing you to relax in your mind (and body!) It helps bring your mental focus to the present and helps to stay mindful through the day. So in a nutshell, it discharges energy from the physical, mental and emotional body and brings you back to a state of calm and balance. Here’s some techniques to help you ground yourself and so be more calm and present.
1. Tree Root technique - With this technique you imagine that your legs are like trunks of trees extending down into the Earth. Then picture your feet putting roots down into the Earth. Push them down as deeply as you can and you should feel a sense of being more stable and balanced.
2. Earthing - This is literally what it sounds like. It involves you touching the Earth with your bare skin in some way. You can touch it with your hands, hold soil (gardening is great for this) or walk outside (carefully!) on grass with bare feet.
3. Water - Water is great for calming and grounding. Paddle in a stream, even a warm bath or shower is fabulous. And…make sure you drink the recommended daily amount of water. I am working up to this one, as I’m not very good at this! My very late resolution for the year.
4. Crystals and Stones - Wearing or carrying certain crystals are good, they can act as ‘worry’ stones, carry them in your pocket. Each crystal has a different vibration and helps to calm. A few good ones for grounding are hematite and obsidian.
5. Essential oils - pop them in a diffuser, put them in a room spritz, a couple of drops on your pillow! Lavender is a must for helping with relaxation and sleep.
I sell aromatherapy stones infused with lavender and chamomile and they are amazing. Not only a delicious smell, but really relaxing. If you would like to try them, I am now at Auraura Centre, Teme Court, Tenbury or you can order them online via StillMindApothecary.Etsy.com I also carry out relaxation techniques on a 1-to-1 basis, online via zoom and face to face in the Centre.
