Hygge - Your Car

Hi everyone, and welcome to the hygge blog chat. This time, let’s go slightly off piste and think about how we can hygge our car of all things.

I can hear you now going, OK Sally, you have completely lost the plot now, what are you on about? But please bear with me. We spend more time in our cars than we probably realise (some of us). Some of us are all too aware of how much time we spend in our car, so why not bring hygge into the car and make our journeys more enjoyable.

1. Cozy Steering Wheel Cover

The steering wheel, our way to control where we are going.  Having the right steering wheel cover will help provide the cushion you want.  Make sure you buy one that’s resistant to high temperatures and durable.

2. Car Diffusers

Did you know they make essential oil diffusers for the car?  It just plugs into your cigarette lighter or clips onto the air vents and uses the flow of air to move the scent around the car.

You can set the diffuser on continuous or interval settings if the scent of essential oils is too much. You can choose your favourite essential oils to help calm, relax or refresh you on your journey.

3. Listen to Podcasts

Why not listen to your favourite podcasts while driving? Pick your favourite topic and have a good listen while sat in the car.

4. A Seat Warmer

If the weather is cold or damp, why not treat yourself to a seat warmer and get yourself cosy and warm. Have a look online and see what you can find.

5. Keep your car tidy

A clean and organized car can make you feel better about taking on the day.  Cleaning the windscreen regularly can be a big part of keeping the car feeling like it is in good condition.  Perhaps keeping a carrier bag in the car to act as a rubbish bag, helps to keep things picked up and tidy.

6. Favorite drinks and travel mugs

Making your favorite warm drink for winter and cold drink for summer to have in the car is the perfect way to sip your way into bliss.  Have bottled water and other favorite drinks in a small cooler in case they are needed is also a great idea.  Having a happy travel mug will also make your commute go by a bit easier.

7. Your favorite snacks handy

Keep the snacks that make you happy handy in case the munchies start while in the middle of commuting. There’s nothing worse than being stuck in traffic and being “hangry.” I always find snacking on fruit or nuts (unless you’re allergic!) is a great way of staving off hunger pangs.

8. Audio Books

For those of you who have a long commute each way to work,  why not start listening to audiobooks to make the commute less hectic.

It is an amazing way to ‘read’ more books in a year than you ever would normally. Light reads and cosy mysteries would be the perfect books to listen to keep the commute relaxing.

9. Comfy clothes

If you have a long commute, you might want to consider wearing comfy clothes for the commute and then changing them once you get to work.  After work is over, you change back into your comfy clothes for the journey home. It’s a great way to change your mindset after a long day in the office.

10. Hygge your vehicle with a cozy lap blanket

If you don’t want to use a seat warmer, you could always have a lap blanket handy to keep your lap warm.

11. Bring along a friend

Here’s a suggestion. Why not strap a teddy in the passenger seat. It could help you feel like you have a friend travelling with you on that journey.

12. Listen to soothing music

Find beautiful music that will transport your soul to a beautiful place.  Isn’t it funny how by listening to inspiring music, it has the power to shift our perspective of the world completely?

13. A small photo of a loved one

How about attaching a little picture frame on your dash with a photo of a special loved one tucked inside? You could even put a picture of your dog or cat if seeing his or her picture soothes your soul.

14. Scarf, hat and gloves

Keeping a hat, scarf and gloves in the car all the time means that you don’t have to worry in case the weather turns cold. Also try keeping a sunhat and suncream in there too for those hot summer days.

15. Lip balm

This is a really simple idea, but by having a lip balm handy, it makes all the difference be it cold or hot weather.

16. A cut bumper sticker

If you feel like it, by adding a bumper sticker to your car, it can give it a personality all of its own.
